Michael McFaul speaks about foundamental difference in US-Russia ties

The National Security Council’s point person for Russia, Michael McFaul has talked about the Russia-US relations regarding the issue of Georgia a few hours before the beginning of Mrs. Clinton`s official meetings in Moscow. Michael McFaul says the borders of Georgia are the sharpest issue in the US-Russia relations. In an interview with the Russian news agency Interfax, Michael McFaul spoke about the necessity of international monitoring in Abkhazia and South Ossetia conflict regions, which the US discusses as the inseparable parts of Georgia. Michael McFaul said the differences on the issue of Georgian borders and its separatists regions are fundamental in Russia-US relations and no solution of these problems are feasible in near future. However, the US official says the top task of the US and the Russian governments should be evasion of conflict escalation in Caucasus.
