NGO sends lawsuit against aggressors in Strasburg Court
08.03.10 16:45
Georgian NGO Human Rights Priority has sent yet another lawsuit from Georgia to Strasburg`s Human Rights Court against Georgian and Russian governments. This time the lawsuit is based on the complaint of a Georgian national, resident of a village in the Gori Region, who was raped during the days of August war in 2008. According to the testimony of the woman, four soldiers of non-Georgian ethnicity, intruded into her house and raped her. The NGO believes that Georgia violated the third article of the European Convention on Human Rights. They say it was possible to evade such incidents and cries by warning the residents of the conflict area about the possible aggression and evacuating them. The complaint against Russia in the lawsuit is the following - the NGO asserts that from August 11-12 the villages in the Gori district were under Russian control and the Russian side failed to provide public order on the ground. The complainant side asserts Russia must be held accountable and brought to justice for the allegations described in the lawsuit.
