Giorgi Targamadze has officially named Inga Grigolia as the first number of the Christian Democratic Party`s election list for the forthcoming local self-government election in Georgia. The leader of the Christian Democratic movement has held a briefing in Prime Time Press Club. He has also named the former journalist as the candidate for the Chair of Tbilisi City Hall. Candidate for Tbilisi Mayor Giorgi Tchanturia has attended the briefing as well.
Mr. Targamadze said, Inga Grigolia will arrive in Tbilisi in March and undertake her political activities from April. He thinks the pair of candidates for Tbilisi Mayor and Chair of City Hall, presented by the Christian Democratic Party will be unconquerable.
`We have decided that Inga Grigolia will be heading the Christian Democratic Party in the forthcoming election. She is a friend of us all, stubborn fighter for human rights and democratic values during many years. Inga is the person, regarding to whom we can use these kinds of estimations`, Giorgi Targamadze said.
`She has done very much to protect free media and speech, as well as assist simple people. Inga Grigolia is a fighting person and she will be able to respond to all the challenges the country is facing today`, Giorgi Tchanturia said.
Other political parties have also commented on Inga Grigolia`s moving to politics. They say, she was quite a good journalist, but time will show, whether she is a good politician as well.
Popular Georgian journalist, famous for her open and unbiased criticism, goes to politics after several months` pause in her activities in media. Inga Grigolia, who is in London now for education, has been offered leading position in the list of the Christian Democratic Movement for the self-government elections scheduled for May 30 2010.
In her telephone interview with Rustavi2, Grigolia has confirmed that she has agreed to go to politics with her former colleagues, who have also left media and moved to politics after the 2007 developments in Georgia. She says she will arrive in Georgia earlier then she had planned and join the pre-election campaign. If the CDM wins the polls, Inga Grigolia will be the chairperson of the Tbilisi City Hall.
`Leading position in the election list is a very serious responsibility, particularly, when a person takes the first decision to go to politics. Once I decided to do this, I will have to perform very serious and intensive work,` Grigolia said.
