10.03.10 18:13
President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Joao Soares has met with Georgian political experts in the Georgian Centre for Strategic Surveys. Prior to it, he held talks with representatives of the parliamentary as well as extra parliamentary opposition in Tbilisi Marriott Hotel. Issues of internal as well as external policies were discussed at the talks. Participants of teh meeting also talked about security of the country. The opposition members think, the OSCE should more actively get involved in resolution of conflicts on the Georgian territory, the organization should intensify working with Russia and force Moscow to lift the veto from the issue of letting the OSCE mission into the occupied territories.
Another issue discussed at the talks was the forthcoming local self-government election in Georgia. The opposition members consider it necessary that OSCE monitors get involved in the election.
It is noticeable, that there have never been a precedent of OSCE`s participation in monitoring of local elections, but as the Georgian side is greatly interested in this, Joao Soares promised the opposition that OSCE observers will carry out intensive monitoring of local self-government election in Georgian in May.
