Georgian president continues monitoring of the governmental offices. Mikheil Saakashvili went to the Ministry of Finance today and spoke about the key problems in the country`s fiscal sector, as well as about the achievements.
President recollected the period of previous government, when the funds of international organizations and various aids from abroad were spent on the personal comfort of senior officials and authorities and compared the situation at present, when the state funds and the international grants were spent on the rehabilitation of road infrastructure, water and sewage systems, construction of natural gas network, etc.
President said Georgian economy was eventually becoming completely transparent and the decision of electronic governance would be the last nail in the coffin of the black and shadow economy.
Mikheil Saakashvili said the year 2013 will be significant for one reason - to see what the government did of what it was promised.
President hailed the work of country`s economic sector and said the fact that Georgia overcame economic crisis easily in comparison with many developed countries was the result of correct economic reforms and policy, even though many European leaders expected that the economy would collapse.
Mikheil Saakashvili spoke about the situation at Sarpi customs [Georgian-Turkish Border]. He said the customs officers had well-paid jobs and they should not treat tourists like the wild.
`Where have you seen that every vehicle and every tourist that crosses the border is searched? Two days ago, I met with Spanish tourists, who complained about the waste of time at the Turkish border first and than 80 minutes at the Georgian checkpoint, where they were asked to get out of the car for body search. Why do we behave like the wild? They will not travel to Georgia anymore,` Saakashvili said and warned the customs staff to be more attentive.
