Spanish court allows extradition of Georgian crime boss
A Spanish court Monday authorised the extradition of a Georgian crime boss who has been convicted of kidnapping and other crimes in his homeland. Georgian Interior Ministry and General Prosecutor`s office received a relevant letter from Spain on Monday.
Exact date is unknown yet, but as supposed, Kalashov`s extradition to Georgia would take several months.
The letter sent by the Spain`s Supreme Court says that the decision of Tbilisi City Court on Kalashov`s 18-year sentence in his absence, has been approved. According to the letter, the request on Kalashov`s extradition submitted by the Georgian side complies with the international norms of extradition.
Georgian Prosecutor`s Office addressed the Spain`s Royal Court with request of the crime boss` extradition on May 17, 2010.
Legally, Zahar Kalashov has right to fight the court`s decision.
He was detained by Spanish law enforcers on June 6, 2010 in the city of Marbela and sent to prison.
