President Saakashvili inspects construction of Imereti bypass road

Construction of a new bypass road has been launched in the city of Kutaisi of Imereti Region in Western Georgia. The ministry for regional development is coordinating the project funded by the governments of Georgia and Japan.
The 17-kilometer express highway is a sector of the 58-kilometer Imereti road. The new highway is planned to go through the major large towns of the region. The project intends construction of completely new two-line highway.
As reported, the highway will be covered with concrete layer; 6 bridges will be constructed, one of them being a railroad; coast-protecting and infrastructural works will be carried out.
After the project is finished, the Kutaisi-Zestaponi-Samtredia road is expected to be significantly relieved.
1500 people are expected to be employed at the construction.
President Saakashvili inspected the ongoing project today being first to start the construction works.
