The spokesperson of Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the Commission, issued the following statement on Monday.
`In view of the reports about the elections in the Georgian breakaway region of South Ossetia on the 25 March, this statement is to recall that the European Union does not recognise the constitutional and legal framework within which these elections have taken place. The High Representative reiterates her support to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia, as recognised by international law. The High Representative would in this context like to emphasize the importance of the Geneva International Discussions in ensuring the security and stability in the region,` the statement says.
