Unique inscriptions and frescos destructed in Bedia Monastery
11.05.12 11:44
Unique frescos and inscriptions on the walls of the Bedia Monastery, Abkhazia, Georgia, have been completely erased. Rustavi2 has obtained the video proving the destruction of the ancient frescos. The rehabilitation works were started in the Bedia monastery under the decision of the Abkhazian puppet regime without the consent of the Georgian church and government. The works are being carried out by a Russian developer company Techtonik. Scaffoldings have been already put up inside the monastery. The fresco of the first king of united Georgia Bagrat III along with other frescos is no longer visible on the video as well as inscriptions. Bedia Monastery is one of the unique monuments of Georgia`s cultural heritage. Georgian monuments are mistreated in the breakaway Abkhazia, as experts and scientists are now allowed to observe the restoration works.
