President of European Council on his visit in Georgia

President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy is on his visit in Georgia. The European politician is visiting Tbilisi within his Caucasian tour.
Mr. Van Rompuy met with representatives of the political opposition and the non-governmental sector of Georgia today. The upcoming parliamentary elections and the pre-electoral environment were discussed at the meeting.
One of his first meetings Herman Van Rompuy held with the chairman of Georgian parliament. The two colleagues discussed the EU-Georgia relations, the free trade agreement and the ongoing dialogue on possible visa-free travel of Georgian citizens to the European countries.
The president of the European Council also met the Georgian president today. Mikheil Saakashvili accepted the European guest at the president`s palace. The two presidents discussed Georgia`s European integration as well as the government reshuffles and the upcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia.
As reported, the European Union intends to send a representatives monitoring mission for the parliamentary elections in Georgia in October 2010.
