Khatuna Kalmakhelidze appealed to Prime Minister about resignation this morning. `All that has occurred in the Gldani N8 penitentiary facility is absolutely horrifying for me and in this regards, I have appealed to Prime Minister about my resignation. Humanely, I am deeply sorry for what happened there and I want to take on myself a humane and of course, political responsibility,` said the minister in the statement published on the ministry website today. Khatuna Kalmakhelidze took a decision to resign after the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia released scandalous videos depicting torture of prisoners in the Gldani prison.
Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance of Georgia, Sozar Subari told Alia newspaper that the video tapes discovered in the secret storage in Samegrelo two days ago, include the footage of sexual abuse of prisoners and not only prisoners.
