President Saakashvili had telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General

President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has had a telephone conversation with the Secretary General of NATO, Anders Fogh Rasmussen today. Saakashvili and Rasmussen talked about the October 1 parliamentary elections in Georgia.
NATO Secretary General has assessed the elections as a historic moment for Georgia`s democratic development. Rasmussen congratulated president and Georgian people on conduct of free and fair elections and reaffirmed support to Georgia`s Euro-Atlantic integration.
He also mentioned that Georgia`s integration into the alliance was an irreversible process and the country was given serious opportunities for making important steps in this process.
President`s special address was released on internet after the conversation. Mikheil Saakashvili said he was invited to the 58th session of the NATO General Assembly, which will be held in the Prague. Saakashvili will be the main speaker at the session.
Saakashvili said in the video address that Georgia has got closer to the NATO after conducting democratic elections of parliament. He said the country now has a historic chance to make serious steps forward to the alliance. Saakashvili says he has expressed this position at the meeting with the candidate of prime minister too.
Saakashvili also said that cooperation with the coalition, which will soon assume the power in Georgian government, was necessary in order to facilitate the process of integration.
