President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has had a telephone conversation with the Secretary General of NATO, Anders Fogh Rasmussen today. Saakashvili and Rasmussen talked about the October 1 parliamentary elections in Georgia.

NATO Secretary General has assessed the elections as a historic moment for Georgia`s democratic development. Rasmussen congratulated president and Georgian people on conduct of free and fair elections and reaffirmed support to Georgia`s Euro-Atlantic integration.

He also mentioned that Georgia`s integration into the alliance was an irreversible process and the country was given serious opportunities for making important steps in this process.
