Penitentiary Minister publishes list of monitoring group members

Acting minister of Penitentiary, Corrections and Legal Assistance of Georgia presented the list of 51 members of the monitoring group, which will be authorized to enter and conduct monitoring of prisons any time they decide. The working groups consist of journalists, NGO representatives and lawyers. They will need no special licenses or issues to enter prisons; neither will they be obliged to inform the prison administrations about their visits in advance. The monitoring group`s authority will expire on January 31, 2013.
West Georgia`s District Prosecutor`s Office has arrested the secretary general of the United National movement Vano Merabishvili and the president`s representative to the Kakheti Region Zurab Chiaberashvili.
