Minister for Corrections and Legal Assistance inspects juvenile facility

Georgian Minister for Corrections and Legal Assistance Sozar Subari visited today the juvenile detention facility of Avchala in Tbilisi`s suburbs. Along with the minister, head of the penitentiary department Ms. Maia Khasia and representatives of various international organizations also inspected the conditions in the facility.
Refurbishment works are now underway in the Avchala facility and as soon as they are finished, juvenile inmates, who are now serving their sentences in prisons of Gldani and Rustavi, will be returned to Avchala facility.
Sozar Subari talked to the workers today. The minister said the territory of the facility is not large enough, therefore it will be enlarged.
West Georgia`s District Prosecutor`s Office has arrested the secretary general of the United National movement Vano Merabishvili and the president`s representative to the Kakheti Region Zurab Chiaberashvili.
