Georgian president`s administration responds to PM`s call

Georgian President’s administration has responded to the prime minister`s proposal regarding moving to the state chancellery from the president`s palace for purpose of cutting down expenses.
President`s spokesperson Ms. Manana Manjgaladze released an official statement at the briefnig today.
“The institution of President of Georgia is a significant part of our country’s constitutional structure. The building where the president’s administration functions is not the property of Citizen Mikheil Saakashvili. It is the administration of the President of Georgia. Normal functioning of the various state institutions is a democratic part of all civilized countries. In the case of Georgia, it is part of our country, Georgian democracy. It is also part of our country’s democracy to get accustomed to the existence of institutes with different viewpoints. We consider this is good and right for the development of our country’s democracy. We hope the new government will approach the process of transition in a civilized manner, like the President of Georgia and the previous government did”, she said.
She also commented on the part of the constitution, according to which the president maintains his authority till October 2013.
"It’s obvious that the Georgian president’s term expires after a new President is elected according to the constitution of Georgia. New elections will be held in October 2013. This is the same constitution and the same term the current parliament was selected by and a new majority created, and then there were no questions raised regarding the terms of the constitution", the spokesperson said.
