On the decision of Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili , Giorgi Kalandadze is going to serve in the capacity of a Chief of Joint Staff in the Armed Forces of Georgia.
The president received Giorgi Kalandadze at the president`s palace today. Mikheil Saakashvili emphasized at the meeting that everyone should respect the Georgian armed forces.
"We have created such kind of armed forces, which can`t be influenced by this political situation, because they serve the Georgian people and not any certain political party, government or president. Protection of our country is most important. My advice would be to leave all these behind, return to the Joint Staff and continue the loyal service of the homeland like you did in previous years”, he said.
Giorgi Kalandadze was sent to pre-trial detention along with former interior and defense minister Bachana Akhalaia and commander of 4th army brigade Zurab Shamatava yesterday on power abuse charges. The court ruled to release Mr. Kalandadze today.
