Tbilisi City Court rules suspend powers of two army commanders

Tbilisi City Court has ruled to suspend powers of Army Chief of Staff Giorgi Kalandadze and commander of 4th army brigade Zurab Shamatava.
The court satisfied application sent by the prosecutor`s office yesterday.
The army chief of staff and the commander of 4th army brigade were released on bail of GEL 20,000 each.
Georgia`s President Mikheil Saakashvili received Mr. Giorgi Kalandadze and Mr. Zurab Shamatava yesterday. Mr. Kalandadze continued working in the capacity of the army chief of staff on the president`s decision.
Later yesterday Defense Minister Irakli Alasania also received Giorgi Kalandadze. Giorgi Kalandadze and Zurab Shamatava along with Georgia`s ex-minister for internal affairs Bachana Akhalaia were sent to two-month pr-trial detention by Tbilisi City Court on Friday pending investigation into charges against them involving abuse of soldiers and illegal confinement. Bachana Akhalaia remains in an isolated cell in prison #8 of Tbilisi.
