Ivanishvili comments on restoring Armenia-Abkhazia railway section

17.01.13 16:40

Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili has said that Georgia is prepared to launch negotiations with all interested parties regarding the restoration of the Armenia-Abkhazia railway section, but he added, the main problem - position of Russia, was still an obstruction in this process. Ivanishvili said that Georgia and Armenia did not have problems in bilateral relations, but the main factor in the process of restoring the railway was the position of Russia.
`I think the restoration of the railway is quite possible and even more can be done. Our countries have no problems in the relationship, but you know that we had and we still have a very big problem with Russia. We hope and we are trying to solve this problem. The hardest of them is the territorial integrity of Georgia and this is a long-term process, but the restoration of railway is quite possible and it should be done as soon as possible if there is a political will of all parties. Georgia in its turn is prepared, but there is a Russian side. In addition, we do not have good relations with our brother Abkhazians. All sides should be prepared for this process and we are willing to solve this issue as soon as possible,` Ivanishvili said at the press conference held after the meeting with the Prime Minister of Armenia, who in his turn hailed the position of the Georgian side and said the Armenian government was also interested in restoring railway in time.
