President Saakashvili met with Jean-Claude Mignon in Strasburg

President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has met with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Jean Claude Mignon in Strasburg today. Sides discussed the necessity of enhancing relations with the PACE for democratic development of Georgia and the issues of fulfilling the resolutions adopted by the PACE in relations with Russia. Jean Claude Mignon emphasized the meaning of the fulfillment of those resolutions and expressed his readiness to facilitate to this process. After the meeting, Saakashvili and Mignon answered the questions of journalists. Mikheil Saakashvili said improvement of relations with Russia was very important, but the situation in Georgia was quite unique, because Russia was not only the neighbor for Georgia, but the country, which had occupied 20% of its territory and continued ethnic cleansing there. He disapproved the position of Georgia`s new government that the best example of equal relations with Russia and NATO was Armenia - though he added that was the main difference in the visions of the new government and the president. Mikheil Saakashvili said the NATO and the EU were the choice of Georgian people and it should be respected, while Armenia had no intention to join the Alliance.
Georgia`s Interior Minister is meeting today representatives of NGOs and media organizations to introduce the details of the video archive discovered in the cache in Samegrelo Region few days ago.
Nine persons have been arrested within the investigation launched after finding the scandalous videos of human torture and sexual abuse. The videos were along weapons and drugs in a secret store in Samegrelo last week.
