Foreign Minister releases special statement regarding PACE resolution

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has released a special statement regarding the new resolution adopted by the Parliamentary of the Council of Europe [Georgia and Russia: the humanitarian situation in the conflict- and war-affected areas, Resolution 1916] on January 23rd. `The resolution differs from other political resolution on the consequences of Georgia-Russia war by focusing on those problems, which obstruct to the protection and implementation of human rights on the occupied territories. The resolution focuses on the problem of the repatriation of IDPs. In addition, the documents calls on the Russian side for unconditional fulfillment of the terms of six-point agreement signed on August 12, 2008. It should be noted that similar passage has never been inserted in any previous PACE resolutions. Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the resolution`s detailed approached to humanitarian problems and expresses its hope that by close cooperation with the Council of Europe and other international organizations, a real progress will be achieved, including the negotiations in the frames of the Geneva negotiations. It`s notable that the Parliamentary Assembly took into consideration the amendments presented by Georgian delegation,` the statement says.
