Former governor of Mtskheta-Mtianeti region detained

Former governor of Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region Mr. Tsezar Chocheli has been detained on charges of legalization of illicit income and illegal involvement in entrepreneurial activities.
Representatives of the investigational department of teh ministry of finance said the former governor received illicit incomes from the projects funded by the state budget. Reportedly, Tsezar Chocheli also was illegally involved in activities of New Energy Company.
Tsezar Chocheli was elected a chairperson of the assembly of Akhalgori town of Tskhinvali Region in 2002 and was later appointed as a head of the administration of teh district. In 2002 he was elected a single-mandate MP for Akhalgori district. In 2008 Mr. Chocheli was appointed as a governor of Mtskheta-Mtianeti region, which he resigned on November 24, 2012, after the parliamentary elections.
