Russia says negotiations on Georgia return to CIS underway
Mikhail Evdokimov, the head of the CIS member states` first department of the Russian ministry of foreign affairs, asserts that the Russian government has already launched negotiations with the government of Georgia regarding the return of the country to the Commonwealth of Independent States. Evdokimov made this statement during his visit to Minsk and defined that Georgia`s CIS membership completely depends on the will of the country.
`Georgia has not been expelled from CIS by anybody. It was the decision of the country,` Evdokimov announced and added that the negotiations were already underway. He said none of the CIS member states would be against of Georgia`s return to the organization.
The chairperson of the parliamentary committee for foreign affairs, Tedo Japaridze has denied reports about the negotiations with Russia regarding the CIS membership. He said the foreign policy course of Georgia, which aims at Euro-Atlantic integration, is firm and unchanged.
