Secretary General of the United National Movement has commented regarding the statement of the ruling majority made earlier today. Davit Saganelidze, the leader of the majority called on the minority members to support the draft amendments to the constitution, which aims at reducing president`s authority. Merabishvili accused the government of pressure on the minority members and added that if the majority succeeded to adopt the draft amendments and the members of the UNM faction supported it this week, it would mean that Bidzina Ivanishvili and the government of Georgia used all possible means to blackmail the minority members. `Majority has performed an entirely unintelligible hysteria today and it is unintelligible for me what happened these days that could have caused such riot among the majority, which does not have sufficient votes for adopting constitutional amendments and the position of the members of the minority gives me a reason to announce that the majority is very far from adopting the constitutional amendments. This situation the statements of the majority that the constitution will be soon amended, makes me fear that the government has planned serious repressions against the UNM faction members. I want to warn the government and Bidzina Ivanishvili in person, that if these days the majority adopts constitutional amendments, it will mean that Bidzina Ivanishvili misused his authority and with violent methods won over the support of the members of the minority via blackmail and intimidation. I warn them that misuse of duties is a crime that is to be punished,` Merabishvili said.
