Merabishvili to be interrogated by investigation

Secretary General of the United National Movement will be interrogated for the third time - chief prosecutor Archil Kbilashvili announced at the press conference today. Kbilashvili said the investigation on several high-profile crimes including murder of Sandro Girgvliani and the dispersal of the May 26, 2011 demonstrations, were underway and there is a need to interrogate the former prime minister and the interior minister. There are different cases, which are being investigated by the prosecutor`s office and within this process; there is a need to interrogate Vano Merabishvili. These cases include the May 26 developments, Girgvliani`s death case and others,` Kbilashvili said. Chief prosecutor also said the mayor of Tbilisi might be summoned for interrogation again too. Mayor was questioned about the work of the Tbilservice Group municipal ltd, but prosecutor said mayor may face other charges too. Kbilashvili also spoke about the process of investigations on other cases - death of Zurab Zhvania, murder of Buta Robakidze and the torture of inmates in prisons. Kbilashvili said the investigation on Buta Robakidze`s murder would be over soon and its results would be announced publicly, therefore, he abstained from voicing the details of the process today. According to the chief prosecutor, the investigation of the reasons of the death of Zurab Zhvania was also intensively underway; several former officials have been already interrogated and the investigation has intensive contact with the family of the late prime minister.
