Prosecutor`s will appeal TCC ruling
26.02.13 10:42
Chief prosecutor`s office may appeal the ruling of the Tbilisi city court regarding its motion against Tbilisi mayor Gigi Ugulava taken yesterday. Chief prosecutor Archil Kbilashvili said in the interview with one of the local radios, that the ruling was illegal; however, the final decision about appeal would be taken after looking into the document scrupulously. Chief prosecutor suspects the independence of the judiciary after the parliamentary elections, i.e. change of the government in Georgia. He said it should be taken into consideration that until October 1, 2012, the court used to satisfy almost all motions of the prosecutor`s office, while the situation is quite contrary since the elections, as almost none of the motions of the prosecutor is satisfied. `Naturally, this sign increases criticism and attitude towards the judiciary branch of the government regarding its independence,` Chief Prosecutor said. Tbilisi City Court has not satisfied the motion of the prosecutor`s office on ruling one million GEL bail against Tbilisi mayor Gigi Ugulava. The prosecutor was also demanding preventing the mayor to leave the borders of the country and suspension of his authority. This motion was also rejected by the court. Tbilisi mayor is accused of money laundering, appropriation of private property and machinations.
