Chairperson of the supervisory board of the Georgian Public Broadcaster, Levan Gakheladze held a briefing today, where he spoke about the developments in the GPB and the approach of the parliament to this process.
He told journalists that the form of communication between the parliament and one part of the GPB staff without having discussed the processes with the board was unacceptable. He thinks the parliament chairperson and other lawmakers should have showed their interest into the position of the board first of all and makes statements in the frames of law.
`The fact that the parliament chairperson shows interest to the processes at the GPB is good and should be welcomed, but in such a conflict situation which is inside the GPB today, lawmakers meet with one part of the GPB staff in the first place instead of meeting with the GPB board to learn the motivation of their decisions, afterwards they make statements that the dialogue was good indeed and the process should be speeded up. What does this mean? Current legislation says that the only form of obligation of the GPB towards the parliament is annual written report, which is not obligatory at the same time,` Gakheladze said.
