Bagrati Cathedral restoration project architect awarded gold medal

Architect Andrea Bruno has been awarded a gold medal for Georgia`s Bagrati Cathedral restoration project. The architect was awarded Domus Restoration and Reservation award 2012 at the third annual international conference in Ferrara, Italy.
According to teh decision of teh judges of teh contest, Bagrati Cathedral restoration project by Andrea Bruno is an example of complex combining of "the new" with "the old".
Another gold medal was awarded to Japanese Architect Tadao Ando for Punta della Dogana restoration project in Venice, Italy.
On March, 2013 a science conference and discussion is planned to take place, at which representatives of UNESCO and ICOMOS are expected to discuss the works carried out in Bagrati Cathedral.
The Cathedral of the Dormition, or the Kutaisi Cathedral, more commonly known as Bagrati Cathedral is the 11th-century cathedral church in the city of Kutaisi, the region of Imereti, Georgia. The cathedral, rebuilt officially on September 16th, 2012 after heavy damage ages ago, served as a masterpiece in the history of modern and medieval Georgian architecture.
