NGO Free zone published secret report on May 26 events
NGO Free Zone has published a report of an American side on the developments in Tbilisi on May 26 2011 - when anti-governmental protest was dispersed by special units.
The report was prepared by an American Company Densus on the request of the US Department of State.
The report describes how the protestors installed metal barriers and fastened it to the light masts with metal wires. This act is assessed as a direct provocation by the protestors. It also says how the police offered the protestors to free the main avenue, where on the next day a parade dedicated to the Independence Day should be held and dismantled the barriers to let the protestors leave the territory. The protestors were holding shields and clubs. About 200 out of 1000 protestors resisted to the police. There are evidences that the protestors had Molotov cocktails and licenses arms with them.
The report also describes how several vehicles of the organizers of the protest drove towards the special units, who walked to arrest those who were acting improperly. The cars did not stop and crashed into several law enforcers - one police officer, one civilian were killed and five officers were injured.
The report says that there are evidences, which prove that a small group of protestors. `We should admit that greatest majority of officers acted with discipline, followed the commands and used the proportional and necessary power for achieving the goal - this was clearly confirmed,` the report says.
Based on the report, the attorneys of that-time interior minister Vano Merabishvili demand revision of the charges against the defendant.
