Former official extradited from Kiev to Tbilisi
Former official of Georgia`s Constitutional Security Department Oleg Melnikov was extradited today from Borispol airport of Kiev to Tbilisi International Airport.
Attorneys who intend to visit the defendant said the former official requested himself his extradition to Georgia and he intends to prove his innocence.
Law enforcers had been intensively working after Melnikov`s detention in Ukraine for his extradition to Tbilisi.
Melnikov, 47, was detained in Ukraine in December, 2012 upon the request of the Georgian law enforcement agencies after he was charged with exceeding official powers.
In July separate charges were brought against Melnikov related to high-profile murder case of Sandro Girgvliani; he was charged with providing assistance to illegal confinement of a person.
Giorgi Oniani, who acts as Melnikov’s defense lawyer, said his client denies charges.
