Russian media reviews Georgia`s position on Sochi 2014
Georgia Forgives RF Torch Bearer of S.Ossetia War - Russian news website Lenta.ru has published an article in response to the controversy on Georgia`s participation in the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014. The author of the article reviews the statement of the National Olympic Committee of Georgia and quotes the president of the NOC, Leri Khabelov, who said he saw no reason for changing the decision on participating in Sochi Winter Olympics.
Another online newspaper gazeta.ru has also reviewed Georgia`s positions, which says that Georgia pledges to revise its position in case the sport events are turned into political ones, but at the same time, Georgian government reiterates its intention to regulate relations with Russia.
Georgian lawmakers from the ruling majority say the assessments of Russian media are `cynical`.
`I don`t think such assessments are worthy even of making serious comments,` Viktor Dolidze has said.
Minority members say it`s a pity if the world has an opinion about Georgia as the country, which does not respect its people and those who died for the homeland.
`We should of course apply to diplomatic and political means and try to settle this problem peacefully, but not talk to Russia with inferiority,` Giorgi Baramidze of the UNM has said.
