Anti-government protests continue in Kiev

03.12.13 10:00

Last night was comparatively calm in the capital of Ukraine last night - several thousands of protestors stayed in the streets keeping the government`s offices blocked up.
The opposition leaders held a press conference last night and called upon the Ukrainian army to disobey a command on dispersing the demonstrations; they also addressed the lawmakers to support the initiative on impeaching government. The initiative will be proposed for vote to Ukraine`s RADA later today.
Ukraine`s Prime Minister in his turn accused the opposition of organizing anti-government rallies which aim at toppling down the government. Mikola Azarov met with the members of the cabinet and announced that the nation-wide demonstrations would affect country`s economy and would cause a crisis that would be an obstacle for paying salaries and pensions in usual regime.
Along with the demonstrations in Kiev, the head of the administration of President Sergei Levochkin announced his resignation. Local media is reporting that Levocking was against the dispersal of the protests. He says the president does not plan to step down despite protests.

The nation-wide protests in Ukraine started after the president rejected EU association deal during the Vilnius summit.
