Rustavi2 has taken an exclusive interview with Patriarch Filaret. The head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate spoke about the reasons that made the peaceful civilians start peaceful demonstrations in the capital city. Patriarch said the Church of Ukraine stood beside its people and added that the rejection of the EU association agreement by the president was the outcome of the pressure from Russia. `Our position is with our people. They went out in the streets, because Ukraine rejected EU association agreement. These people were expecting this event whole year and when Yanukovich refused to sign it, people protested. Students were the first to hold rallies and they did not intend to join the opposition in this process, they only wanted to express their support to the EU integration, but these children were beaten up and dispersed and protest grew into a nation-wide demonstration. The protestors were joined by the opposition and they were also dispersed. Now the situation has reached the moment, when people demands resignation of the government and its change,` Patriarch said.
