MPs discuss draft bill on self-governments by the first hearing
The session of the parliament of Georgia began with the observing of the minute silence on the death of great Georgian novelist and public worker, Chabua Amirejibi. The writer passed away at the age of 92. Parliament speaker Davit Usupashvili addressed the lawmakers and called on to observe the minute silence. The lawmakers are discussing the controversial draft bill on self-governments by the first hearing today. The discussion is underway with noisy debates even though the opposition is not attending the session, but there are differences on the draft bill even among the majority MPs. The opposition meanwhile is waiting for reaction on the incident that occurred in the session hall two days ago, when the majority MP Jachvliani insulted minority MP Baramidze verbally. The opposition says the parliament chairperson should assess the incident adequately and condemn it. The opposition accuses MP Jachvliani of kindling ethnic conflict in the country and encouraging criminal authorities to intimidate politicians. Davit Usupashvili commented on the incident and the protest of the opposition at the session of the bureau today. `Such behavior is beyond the rules of conduct and law. In this case, the chairperson ha no other means to react but assess the fact. Therefore, I want to call on everybody to protect the law and behave properly,` Davit Usupashvili said.
Russian helicopters have violated Georgian airspace - several helicopters flew over the Georgian controlled territory from the occupied Tskhinvali Region yesterday and from the occupied Abkhazia today.
President of Georgia paid tribute to the memory of Georgian national hero, Zhiuli Shartava on his 70th anniversary. Giorgi Margvelashvili announced at the memorial today that by commemorating Zhiuli Shartava, he was also paying tribute to all, who fell in the tragedy of Abkhazia.
Today the first National Hero of independent Georgia – Zhiuli Shartava would become 70 years old. Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili together with Defence Minister Irakli Alasania, other members of Georgian Government and MPs paid a tribute to the memory of Zhiuli Shartava at Saburtalo Pantheon.
Two tourists were killed, two others are missing and only one of the crew survived in an avalanche in Ushguli. The survived tourist contacted the rescue service for help in Ushguli. Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has already confirmed the report about the death of tourists.
Interpol is considering the request of the Ukraine`s government to issue an arrest warrant for ousted president Viktor Yanukovych. The international organization has received an official letter from the Ukraine`s government and will publish the order warrant on its website soon.
