UNM demands set up of investigation commissions
United National Movement demands set up of investigation commission to probe into the investigation and the court trials against Gigi Ugulava, to whom the court suspended authority of the mayor on Saturday and rejected pre-trial detention motion by the prosecutor`s office.
Ugulava said the judge was pressured by the authorities.
The opposition party also calls for the set up of one more investigation commission, which will monitor the trials and investigation against UNM secretary general Vano Merabishvili, who is in prison in difference from Ugulava. They urge the authorities to investigate the authenticity of Merabishvili`s allegations on pressure.
The third request of the UNM is to hold the session of the human rights committee of the parliament, where these issues will be discussed.
The UNM has several other demands too - they urge the chief prosecutor to attend the discussion of the two controversial cases at the parliament; they also summon public defender Ucha Nanuashvili to parliament to report the details of his dialogue with Merabishvili in prison.
The UNM plans to voice their five demands at the parliament bureau today.
The parliamentary majority thinks the set up of investigation commission on either of the cases is useless as they trust the investigation completely. Majority MPs say the involvement in the process of investigation in any form is unacceptable for them.
