Statement by chief prosecutor`s office
Chief prosecutor`s office released a statement in response to the allegation of Gigi Ugulava regarding the conviction record of the chief prosecutor, Otar Partskhaladze.
`After the chief prosecutor`s office intensified investigations on a number of high-profile criminal cases and charged former senior officials in connection with these crimes, including Tbilisi mayor Giorgi Ugulava, the United National Movement with the instructions of these personalities have started and intensified the campaign aimed at blackmailing and discrediting chief prosecutor. After accusing him of meeting with the defendant Ivane Merabishvili, who is currently in prison, their attempt to announce him as a criminal has only one goal - to get the chief prosecutor off his position with any measures and cause dissonance in the work of the office. Considering the aforementioned, the chief prosecutor`s office will keep on doing its job, recognizing that fighting the crime has never been easy, and any question of the society will be fully answered and any attempt to show the investigation process as political persecution, will fail,` the statement says.
