Court rules on military officer`s death case
Tbilisi City Court has ruled on the case of the torture and death of military officer, Colonel Sergo Tetradze today. Judge justified some of the 13 defendants, the rest were sent to prison for different terms.
Former chief of the military police department of the Ministry of Defence of Georgia, Megis Kardava was recognized guilty in the episode of Chikvatia and Londaridze, while in the episode of Tetradze`s death, judge recognized him non-guilty.
Other former officials, Patsatsia, Kacheishvili and Mukhadze were sent to prison for 9 years and forbidden employment at budgetary offices for three year term. As for other defendants in Tetradze`s death case - Kokhta Kodua was sentenced to 6 year-sentence, Zviad Kapanadze - 2 year, Tornike Gunava - 6 year term. Rati Mgeladze, Merab Metreveli, Aleksandre Kuchuashvili, Mamuka Tsurtsumia, Giorgi Samushia were recognized non-guilty.
Air intelligence and air force officer, Sergo Tetradze was arrested by defence ministry military police on September 17th, 2011 at his place. On September 24th, the family was notified about his death of heart attack. The family declared mistrust to investigation then. The investigation of the death reasons of the late Colonel started again after the change of the government.
