Former military officials recollect 2009 developments
Former military officials have recollected the developments of May 2009 - the incident, that was qualified by that-time government as a riot at Mukhrovani military base, where several people were gravely injured in shootings, but only one died. The `Mukhrovani riot case` became topical on news yesterday after the release of a scandalous video, where former prime-minister, Vano Merabishvili says that he `need two corpses`. It was a video arguably shot by the Interior Ministry PR department. All former authorities, including justice minister, president, CSD chief an others are seen on the video planning an attack on the insurgents.
The military officials, who were convicted and sent to prison with the charges of organizing a riot aiming to topple the government, were released with the status of political prisoners after the change of government in Georgia. Now they assert that it was a performance staged by the officials in order to cause fear and terror in the nation. They say there was not even an attempt of riot, not signs of such action.
`It was Saakashvili`s statement and order given to Merabishvili, who in his turn repeated it as it was seen on the video and he did so. You probably should remember the security council meeting, where Saakashvili told Merabishvili that he should dig us out of earth if necessary and punish us so severely that not a single person would ever think after that to do the same again. The performance aimed at causing fear and terror in the nation,` Levan Amiridze, one of the former convicts has said in the interview with Rustavi2.
Gia Krialashvili was the only one of three wounded former officials who died with one bullet in his body, while the others, who had eight or nine bullets, luckily survived, but they were sent to prison.
The sister of Gia Krialashvili recollects what the eyewitnesses told them after the death of her brother. `Gia had one bullet, the others were subjected to gun fire too, but thanks to God, the guys survived, but my brother died. They were attacked in a minibus. Vano wanted two corpses but he got one and it was my brother,` Ia Krialashvili told Rustavi2.
The former military officials say the former authorities should be held responsible for May 2009 developments.
