President talks about Georgia-Russia relations
President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili reviewed the possibility for his meeting with the president of Russia Vladimir Putin in the studio of the Position talk show broadcast on Rustavi2. President says that any decision in relations with Russia will be taken in accordance with the interests of the state of Georgia and that restoration of relations with the Russian Federation would be possible after the territorial problems of the country are solved.
`The background in the relations of Georgia and the Russian Federation is extremely tense and the Georgian government is determined to de-escalate the situation and at the same time, for us the main point is guaranteeing the recognition of our sovereignty, territorial integrity and the expression of our national position. We are never discussing Georgia as the country, which poses problems to Russia, on the contrary, we consider our country as the one, which follows the kind neighborly relation, but only after our territorial integrity and sovereignty is recognized. Never, even before the parliamentary elections and afterwards, this message has been changed,` Georgian President said and added that if a meeting with Putin would take place, it would be the start of the regulation of relations with Russia.
`We have to find a way out of this deadlock,` Giorgi Margvelashvili said.
