Merabishvili sent to prison for five years
Secretary general of the United National Movement, Vano Merabishvili has been recognized guilty in the case of `employment fraud` and sent to prison for five years. Another defendant in the same case, former health minister Zurab Chiaberashvili has been fined with 50,000 GEL.
Merabishvili`s sentence was determined in accordance with the law on combining charges and the amnesty.
Vano Merabishvili and Zurab Chiaberashvili were arrested on May 22, 2013, however, Chiaberashvili was bailed out on the other day. Both former officials are accused of various crimes tied with the misuse of authority, bribery and misappropriation of state funds.
Neither of the defendants recognize the guilt and accuse the court of failing to stand the pressure from the government of Georgia.
The case was discussed by the Kutaisi City Court.
