Rescue operations underway in Dariali Gorge
Rescue operation is underway in the Dariali Gorge, to which the landslide caused very serious damage two days ago. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, seven people are considered to be missing after the disaster, who may be the citizens of Georgia.
No reports on casualties except one have been confirmed yet. A citizen of Ukraine was rescued by the officers yesterday and hospitalized to the Ghudushauri clinic in Tbilisi, but the doctors failed to save him as the injuries were very serous. 170 people were rescued during these two days of the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, the geologists have already started to explore the area and prepare an interim report on more possible threats of landslide in the disaster area. The Larsi customs has been closed due to the disaster.
The Prime Minister of Georgia set up emergencies headquarters in the disaster area to control the rescue operation, count the damage and provide elimination of the disaster consequences. The headquarters is chaired by the Interior Minister Chikaidze.
