Statement by the president`s parliamentary secretary
The decision has been taken - the prime minister of Georgia will sign the association agreement with the European Union. The corresponding decree has been issued by the President of Georgia, which entitles the Prime Minister to sign the aforementioned agreement on June 27th.
President`s parliamentary secretary Giorgi Pataraia reported the details of the decision at the briefing today and said the decree would be sent to the Prime Minister later today.
`According to the Constitution of Georgia, the EU Association Agreement should be signed by the President of Georgia. However, under the decision of the government, it will be signed by the Prime Minister. In order to avoid questions regarding the legitimacy of the agreement, the President has taken a decision to hand over his authority of signing this document to the Prime Minister,` Giorgi Pataraia defined.
