Resigned puppet leader makes statement

02.06.14 10:44

The resigned leader of the Abkhazian puppet regime, Aleksandr Ankvab has released a video address and a statement for media, in which he explains the motives of his decision to step down. Ankvab says the main reason of his resignation is to avoid bloodshed in the region, where the opposition has been holding anti-government demonstrations for past few weeks.
The so-called parliament of Georgia`s occupied region has already set the date of the new elections of the president - August 24th. Ankvab has already handed over the `state seal` to the puppet speaker and the president`s designate Valeri Bgangba.
The opposition has welcomed Ankvab`s resignation, which was also followed by the first official comment from the Kremlin. President`s assistant Vladislav Surkov told local news agencies that Russia would continue to provide military and economic support to the `government of Abkhazia`.
Though, despite Ankvab`s resignation, the so-called prime minister Leonid Lakirbaia remains on his position, saying the developments in Abkhazia were unconstitutional.
