European Commission President to arrive in Georgia
The President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barosso will arrive in Georgia today - the senior European politician will visit Georgia for two days and hold meetings with the President and the Prime Minister of Georgia and hold press conference. He will also deliver an opening speech at the Georgia Investment Company.
Barosso will arrive in Georgia from Moldova as the demonstration of support to these countries prior to the signature of the Association Agreement.
Jose Manuel Barosso will leave Georgia for Azerbaijan, where the negotiations on bilateral cooperation will be held.
The autumn session of the parliament of Georgia opens with a meeting of the bureau, this time in Tbilisi. The Tbilisi office of the parliament was reconstructed and the lawmakers have moved from Kutaisi to the capital, however, the parliament speaker says the major sessions will be held in Kutaisi office sometimes.
A day before the opening of the parliament`s autumn session, the Prime Minister of Georgia met with the chairpersons of the parliamentary factions. Meeting with the majority MPs was also attended by some of the ministers.
Georgian lawmakers have commented on the controversy about who should attend the 69th session of the UN General Assembly - the President or the Prime Minister, but the majority MPs think that the presence of double delegation would be inconvenient for the country anyway.
A few days before the summit in Wales, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen mentioned Georgia when briefing about the Alliance plans for the future. He reiterated that Georgia would receive a new package at the Summit in Wales, which would bring the country closer to the Alliance.
A 29 year-old man was killed in Marneuli town last night. The incident occurred on Gamsakhurdia Street. The killer inflicted a fatal injury with a knife to the man`s breast. The suspect has been identified and he is now wanted by the police. The criminal case has been filed with the charges of premeditated murder.
The Georgian Prime Minister will chair the delegation of Georgia at the UN 69th session, instead of President Margvelashvili - deputy foreign minister of Georgia, Davit Zalkaliani stated at today`s briefing.
The politicians have made different assessments of the reports on possible decision of the prosecutor`s office to declare former president Mikheil Saakashvili internationally wanted.
