The President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso hopes that the local government elections will be conducted in accordance with international standards in Georgia - the statement was made at the joint briefing held together with the President of Georgia of Georgia after the one-to-one meeting on Thursday. Barroso emphasized the significance of the EU association agreement, which will be signed between Georgia and the European Union later in June. He also recollected his conversation with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, who told him that Russia had not planned to intervene in the process of signing of the EU association agreement with Georgia. The President of Georgia awarded the European Commission president with the Order of Golden Fleece for the EU support to Georgia. The President hailed the meaning of his visit to Georgia prior to this very important day of signature. Today, Barroso will attend a high-level EU-Georgia international conference together with the Prime Minister of Georgia. Tbilisi hosts this conference for the first time. The EU commissioner for neighborhood policy, Stefan Fule is also in Tbilisi. He will meet parliament speaker Davit Usupashvili today.
