President Margvelashvili meets Jose Manuel Barroso
President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili met with the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso today. The sides discussed the topical issues in Georgia-EU relations and focused on the importance of the signature of the Association Agreement and the subsequent action plan for Georgia. The political and economic issues, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area was also touched by the sides. President Margvelashvili hailed the importance of the visit of the European Commission President to Georgia especially in the period, when the country is preparing to sign the Association Agreement.
Giorgi Margvelashvili and Jose Manuel Barroso also reviewed the regional issues and Georgia’s relations with Russia. The discussed the situation in Georgia’s occupied regions and human rights violation on these territories.
As the President said, Georgia continued democratic reforms and expressed his hope that the effective fulfillment of the obligations would be properly reflected on the process of the country’s European integration. Giorgi Margvelashvili thanked President Barroso for the EU’s steadfast support to Georgia’s territorial integrity and its European aspirations.
Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili has left for New York to participate in the 69th session of the UN General Assembly and other events. Irakli Gharibashvili will deliver a speech at the Assembly on September 26th.
