State Minister comments on signature of EU association agreement
State Minister of Georgia for Euro-Atlantic Integration Aleksi Petriashvili has called the signature of the EU association agreement as a historic moment for Georgia and the process, through which the country is getting closer to the membership of the European Union. Petriashvili says the delegation chaired by Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili will assemble in Brussels on June 26th. The signature ceremony will be held on June 27th. `With the signature of the Association Agreement we really start the process of becoming the EU member. This fact will make this process irreversible. This is the plan of modernization, which will finally lead us to the EU membership,` the state minister said. Aleksi Petriashvili has also emphasized the significance of the NATO upcoming summit in Wales. He said the negotiations were underway to find out the format of moving the cooperation on a new level. He said the most important thing for Georgia at present was that the NATO members recognize the progress achieved by Georgia.
A few days before the summit in Wales, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen mentioned Georgia when briefing about the Alliance plans for the future. He reiterated that Georgia would receive a new package at the Summit in Wales, which would bring the country closer to the Alliance.
