Torrential rain triggered landslide in Dariali Gorge
Torrential rain triggered landslide in Georgia`s remote region of Kazbegi - the disaster affected the 134-th section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi motorway late last night.
The landslide was foreseen and the special devices gave an alarm, which enabled the travelers to leave the disaster area in time.
The Ministers of Internal Affairs, Regional Development and Infrastructure, Finances and the Environmental Protection arrived at the disaster zone last night. The geologists are also in the region observing the processes. The Minister of Interior held an emergency meeting of the special headquarters, which was formed after the previous landslide that hit the region on May 17th killing five people. The specialists have discussed the action plan for eradicating the disaster consequences.
Currently, the special personnel have been sent to the area to clean up the road of the mud and collapsed rocks, where, arguably, two workers are missing. One of the missing workers is a Turkish national. The shore-reinforcement works are also in progress to prevent the River Terek flow our of its bed.
