NDI publishes results of approval ratings of politicians
Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II tops the approval ratings published by the National Democratic Institution. The survey was conducted in Georgia in July and August 2014. The results of the survey are based on the answers of over 3.300 respondents questioned throughout the country.
After the Patriarch of Georgia, the positions in the approval rating are shared by the politicians. The most popular politician, according to the NDI, is the Minister of Defence, Irakli Alasania with 60% of the support of the respondents.
The next position was taken by Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili - 54%; parliament speaker Davit Usupashvili - 51%. The ratings for each politician since the previous survey have been reduced with 10%.
Davit Bakradze is the opposition figure, who follows Usupashvili in the same ratings with the support of 48% of respondents.
The next politician with 48% approval rating is the president of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili and his ratings in comparison with the previous survey have been increased in this study. Tbilisi mayor Davit Narmania has also enjoyed the rise of his ratings, which is 45% in this study.
The like rating of former prime minister Bidzina Ivanishvili is also 45%. One more survey shows that the respondents agree with the position that Ivanishvili interferes in the work of the government.
The NDI has also questioned the respondents about the need to have a strong opposition party in the country, on which the `yes` answer was given by 82% of the respondents, while 51% of them think that the United National Movement is the strongest opposition party in Georgia.
