Georgian Dream Coalition holds final rally ahead of elections

A musical performance preceded the rally held by the Georgian Dream opposition coalition on the central square of capital Tbilisi today.
Georgian singers, along with the author of the anthem of the coalition led by billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili appeared on the stage in the center of the city.
The presentation of the political coalition’s song was followed by the speech delivered by the coalition leader Bidzina Ivanishvili, who ascended the stage together with the coalition’s MP candidates for Tbilisi. Although the leader was the only one who addressed the people assembled in the Square of Freedom.
In his 40-minute speech, Bidzina Ivanishvili introduced once again the coalition’s plans to its supporters. Bidzina Ivanishvili arrived at the rally with his family members. While members and supporters of the coalition with blue flags flooded to the central square from different districts of the city.
The rally in the Square of Freedom finished with a concert by Bera Ivanishvili, the rap performer and the son Bidzina Ivanishvili. At the final meeting within the electoral campaign, Bidzina Ivanishvili called the supporters to the parliamentary election due to be held on October 1, 2012.
Along with Tbilisi, the coalition’s rallies were held in Georgia’s parliamentary city of Kutaisi today. Leaders of the coalition addressed voters and supporters of the coalition at the rally.
MP candidates of the coalition, among them Gubaz Sanikidze and Kakha Kaladze, delivered their speeches at the rally. Participants of the meeting were able to watch the coalition’s rally in Tbilisi on large monitors installed in the streets of Kutaisi.
An incident also took place during the procession in the city of Kutaisi today. Several citizens flung fake U.S. dollars into Gubaz Sanikidze, the coalition’s MP candidate for the Kutaisi constituency and one of the leaders of the Georgian Dream. Mr. Sanikidze did not respond, keeping on delivering his speech.
