Early Release Commission to work with a new schedule

Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance of Georgia, Sozar Subari has proposed to change the schedule of the work of the early release commission and subordinate councils, which have been so far assembling once a month. Due to the large number of prisoners in Georgia`s penitentiary, Subari thinks the councils and the commission should assemble and discuss the cases on early release at least twice a month. Minister does not rule out that the number of probationers might be also reduced soon as the ministry plans to revise the cases of probationers, which exceeds 30 thousands. During past few days, since the new government of Georgia was approved by the new parliament, over 350 prisoners have been freed under early release.
Attorneys of the UNM secretary general Vano Merabishvili and president`s representative to the Kakheti Region will appeal the ruling of the Kutaisi city court by 3 p.m. today.
